My First Trip to Toronto in 2013

I thoroughly enjoyed my trip to Canada from October 24th to November 2nd, 2013. During this journey, two unforgettable experiences truly stood out.

First, I was deeply impressed by the bus driver’s exceptional kindness. When I visited Niagara Falls, I had booked a bus scheduled to depart around 5:00 p.m. However, I arrived at the bus depot nearly two hours early, around 3:00 p.m., expecting to wait. To my surprise, the bus arrived ahead of schedule, heading to the same destination, Toronto. The driver warmly encouraged me aboard, cheerfully saying, “OK, come on!” This was my first truly memorable moment in Canada.

Second, I mistakenly ordered the wrong number of bagels at Tim Hortons. Curious about which bagel pairs best with coffee, I chose the bagel labelled number 2 on the menu. When ordering, I tried to indicate I wanted two bagels by holding up two fingers, but I ended up receiving four instead.

These experiences inspired me to learn English. They marked meaningful milestones at the beginning of my language learning journey.

2013年10月24日から11月2日にかけてのカナダ旅行は、本当に楽しいものでした。この旅の中で、特に忘れられない体験が2つありました。

まず、バスの運転手さんの並外れた親切さに深く感銘を受けました。ナイアガラの滝を訪れた際、午後5時頃発のバスを予約していました。しかし、待ち時間が長くなることを覚悟して、予定より2時間近く早い午後3時頃にバスターミナルに到着しました。驚いたことに、同じ目的地であるトロント行きのバスが予定より早く到着したのです。運転手さんは「よし、乗って！」と明るく声をかけ、温かく私をバスに招き入れてくれました。これがカナダでの最初の、本当に心に残る瞬間でした。

次に、ティム・ホートンズでベーグルの数を間違えて注文してしまったことです。どのベーグルがコーヒーに一番合うのか気になって、メニューの「2」と書かれたベーグルを選びました。注文の際、ベーグルを2つ欲しいことを示すために指を2本立てたのですが、結局4つ渡されてしまいました。

これらの経験が、私が英語を学ぶきっかけとなりました。これらは、私の語学学習の旅の始まりにおける、意味のある節目となったのです。
